Well we've been in the house for a whole week now and we've gotten quite a bit accomplished! Here are some before pictures of the house:
This is our front door from inside. The awful brown wood molding will eventually disappear, along with the brown closet doors. We also plan to replace the front door but for now, I am going to strip the paint off of the current one and paint it!
This is why painting the entry way is going to be so difficult!
Looking from the front door down the entry way into the living room.
Living room/dining room. Since the entry way flows right into these rooms and these rooms are really just one giant space, we had to stick with one wall color.
Le kitchen. The fridge has already been replaced and we'll be refinishing the cabinets, getting new countertops, and maybe adding a tile backsplash to jazz it up.
Up the stairs. More super high ceilings to paint!
The bathroom. As I type this we've already updated the toilet and painted it a khaki green color. I haven't taken pictures yet but I will!
Upstairs laundry area. Thank goodness the washer and dryer work!
This is what we're using as our master bedroom since it doesn't share any common walls with anyone.
Here are a few "work in progress" photos from last week. Still need to post pictures of the yard since we cut down two trees and the new fridge and new toilet! We also got everything moved in since these were taken so things are a little more set up. Anyways, here are some in progress shots!
My poppa checking out the paint can for our bedroom. He edged the bedroom by hand for us since he is an EXPERT painter and it looks AWESOME! I tried to cheat and use an edger tool from the paint store downstairs and it doesn't look nearly as nice. I couldn't ask the poor man to edge our whole house though!
Our bedroom before my dad edged it. It's really a deep pink color with a hint of red to it. We now have our bed in the room and our gold and white comforter on it and it all goes really well together! We have new faux-wood blinds to hang once I get the window sill painted. We were worried the room would be totally packed with our king bed because it seemed small but our bed fits nicely with plenty of room around the edges and enough space for a dresser and our TV. Win!
Dad and Lance futzing with paint in the bedroom.
Even the brother jumped in to help paint!
Priming the downstairs walls getting ready to paint. We went with a light gray-ish color that almost looks white until you see it against something white. Thankfully our couch is white so it looks great against that and our new white window blinds downstairs (photos of couch and room with blinds to come soon!).
Major construction zone! We painted the living room/dining room ceiling and then I primed all the walls. We're saving the kitchen for later so we can get the main rooms all done first.
I ended up going primer crazy and priming down the whole entry way as well. Then I painted it! I couldn't get up too high though because I didn't jump on the ladder. We did take our hand roller that extends and attach it to our giant extension roller and we can reach the ceilings but the problem is that we can't push against the roller when it's extended that much so right now you can see where we first hit the roller up on the wall because there is a dark oval then it slowly gets lighter since we couldn't really apply pressure. We'll figure out a way to get them painted though!
Well that is it for now! Since we have our couch in, accent wall mostly done (5 coats of red paint over white paint = still not quite covered. Next time I am using a dark tinted primer!), trees cut down, new fridge, new toilet and the bathroom painted I will have to go take some more pictures. Oh we are also working on digging all the dirt out of the random pit along the side of the house and someone made into a flower box. I bought really gorgeous gray paving stones from a paving stone place in Ballard (thankfully we only need 13 square feet of stone so we were able to go with something really nice) and a couple hundred pounds of gravel so we can put the appropriate 2-3' below the stones - we might cheat and only do 2' since we're not having a ton of people walk on the stone or anything, it'll only house some planters. Tonight we dug out more of it so we're close to being done digging. We also hung the blinds in the downstairs window and Lance edged the ceiling of the bathroom so I can finish the bathroom walls tomorrow after work. PHEW! It's been SO much work but SO much fun! And the projects never end! Saturday my mom is coming up with two cedar planter boxes for out front and a ton of plants. She already dropped off amazing giant pots for the front of the house that we'll fill as well. I also want to get the front door painted and spray the house with this special siding cleaner we got so it looks nicer. I am all about the curb appeal! Just wait until summer when we tackle the back yard! Aside from pulling out the tree stumps, we want to rip out the small concrete patio and re-do it with some nice paving stones, making it bigger and a little nicer looking. We also want to re-sod the whole yard (which isn't much) so we have grass instead of the weeds we have now. Our yard really is just rocks and weeds -it's awful! We also want to replace the fence along the side of our driveway since it's seem better days, but that's falling lower and lower on our priority list. My dad thinks that if we power wash it, stain it and cut the very tops off the fence pieces that it'll look fine so we might try that.
Anyways, off to bed! I am coming down with a cold so I just drank some of the green monster (also known as Nyquil) so I can get a good sleep so we can keep on trucking tomorrow! Hope everyone is having a great night!
