A Preview of Easter at Aunt Cheryl's!

Here are a few pictures that I took at Aunt Cheryl's Easter Egg Hunt! This is just a preview - I took a TON of photos there!

My lovely and talented Aunt Cheryl!

My dad and Zach with his egg basket!

Going for a stroll with Uncle Reg.

Uncle Reg teaching Zach some egg hunting maneuvers.

"Should we pick this up?"

It's much easier when Aunt Joyce picks the eggs up for you.

The egg hiding was done quite well!

Lance and Zach. Lance is Zach's new BFF.

Lilly with her golden egg!

The golden egg was everyone's prized possession!

Carefully examining to be sure that's an egg and not a blue rock.

Apparently the eggs tasted as good as the chocolate inside!

Everyone had a great time! Thanks to AC for a wonderful Easter!

Happy Early Anniversary to the Love of my Life!

Lance and my 2 year anniversary is coming up next week so last night I wanted to surprise him with an extra special present. Let me tell you a little about Lance. Not only is he the nicest, sweetest, most wonderful guy in the entire world but he is completely selfless. Since we bought our house, we’ve bought everything I want – a new sofa, new lamp, curtains, etc. He never says a word about it though and is always happy when I find things I want. So, for our 2 year, I decided to buy him what his heart desired most: a new grill! I wish I had a camera to capture the look on his face last night when I unveiled his big surprise! I got him the exact grill he always drools over at Home Depot. It’s even Diane & Lance sized so it’s not as huge as a regular grill. It’s all fancy with ceramic plates and such and I know Lance can’t wait to get to grilling!

Here is a photo of his new prized possession:

Lance, if you happen to read this, I love you more than anything! Thank you for all you do for me and Turnip and Rockford. Of course the gift was from the boys too. We all want to be sure you always have everything you want because you deserve it! Happy Anniversary from me and the boys!

Okay enough mushy stuff!

We got some unpacking done last night (the spare room is almost completely unpacked and is really starting to look great), hung some drapes, put together a little bench that goes inside the front door for you to sit on and put your shoes on and it has cubby holes underneath. The dogs also went and got muddy then ran ALL OVER the white leather sofa GRRR. I cleaned it the best I could last night but I think it’s time to buy some leather conditioner and leather cleaner. We want to sod the yard this weekend so the dogs aren’t just running and playing in the dirt and that way they won’t come in covered in mud. Once the painting is done and the sod laid, we really just need to finish unpacking then we'll be pretty well set. Of course we still have more stuff to do in the yard, but at least for the most part the inside of the house will be finished! I can't wait! Then we can finally have a house warming party!

Happy Thursday!

Our first outing to Discovery Park!

Today we spent about 3 hours roaming around Discovery Park with the dogs. They LOVED it! The park is only a 3 minute drive away and has a ton of trails and things to see. Rockford started out the day scared of everything and after an hour or so, he was leading our pack! He was so great! He sniffed other dogs, he didn't get scared of people, and he walked like a champ! He's our most confident little doggy now! Turnip also did great except he spent most of the time so excited he started hanging himself on the leash. That's okay though, at least Rockford made up for it by walking like a champion. Here are some pictures from our great family outing!

View from a trail we hiked. Rockford led the way!

Shilshole Bay in Ballard - just across the water!

Lance hiking with our mountain dog!

Another view from the top of our trail hiking! Rockford led us to a good spot! And he was fearless - it was quite a climb!

Lance and our boys. I LOVE that Rockford is being "classic Rockford" and is face the wrong way for the picture!

Another scenic shot!

The boys lounging in the sun... and mud!

Lance and Rockford taking a break on a bench.

Rockford being a champ!

Our adorable man.

One more Rockford shot. He's so dang cute!

We tried to get fancier with this shot.

Turnip in the dirt. And my shadow.

Our little Turnip!

Lance walking the dogs.

Walking as a family!

We had a great time today! We hope to venture out again soon. The dogs are absolutely pooped! They had a great time though.

Dog Walkin' Time

I am trying to use our new camera more so I took a few quick pictures as we were heading out the door to walk the dogs. Of course NONE of them turned out because Lance didn't want to take pictures and the dogs just wanted to go outside, but I still tried! We took them out and walked them down to the Thriftway and back. On the way they made a friend with a baby pitbull named Grace but Rockford got nervous and ended up in my arms. Poor guy - it's tough when you can't hear! He did really well on the walk though! I had Lance jog in front of us and the boys chased after him and it seemed to really help Rockford forget to be scared.

My fellow happy dog walker!

The boys all ready to go! We have a nifty splitter so we only have one leash that they're both connected to.

All ready to head out the front door! Please excuse the state of the door - it's partially stripped since we decided to strip and finish the outside first and live with the shame inside!

And now a few pictures of Rockford who is SO freakin' adorable! I love this guy!

Rockford and his best friend, Crocodile.

Rockford loves to lay on his toys to be sure no one takes them.

Yep, that's our boy!

Hope everyone is having a great night!

A Great Birthday!

We ended up having a lazy Sunday/birthday and it was SO nice! Saturday night we went to Bill the Butcher and bought some great steaks and picked up some pie from the Seattle Pie Company. It was delicious! Lance grills the best steaks in the world. So, instead of going out for dinner, we cooked our steaks and had some pie and wine. It was perfect! I don't know why I'd ever go out for steak anymore! Bill the Butcher has the best steaks and Lance knows how to cook them so perfectly.

Sunday we did some yard work and worked on digging up the back for the sod but spent a lot of the day watching movies. Specifically, we've watched a ton of The IT Crowd on Netflix but we ran out of episodes to watch so we were reduced to good old made for TV movies. Here are some "before" pictures of the yard, though this is after we cut the trees mostly down and we started a bit of digging.

For my birthday, Lance's grandparents sent me the most beautiful flowers! They are seriously the coolest flowers I've ever gotten. I couldn't help but take pictures of them!

I LOVE the spider mums! They look so cool! Special thanks to Fluffy and Da for these! They're the best! And, for those of you who don't know them, Da happens to be especially patient with me and my grand ideas (like building dog houses and special dining tables) which is just another reason they're the best =).
Well I am off to do some cleaning and organizing before Lance gets home! Hope everyone had a great weekend and a fantastic Monday!

A Slow Saturday

Today is going to be a pretty slow day for us. The couch man came earlier this morning and installed the connectors on our sectional so it doesn't float away on the hardwoods. It's so nice to have the couch actually connected! Now we are going to head out to Costco to buy a new bathroom vanity. They have two left in stock that are a perfect fit for our bathroom and have a granite top so we're going to pick one up. We're going to wait to install it until we re-do the bathroom floors so it might be sitting in the garage for a while but it's about $300 less than comparable ones at the Home Depot. It's also more difficult than I thought to find a vanity that looks simple and modern but not TOO modern. A lot of them look like an old chest of drawers with a counter on top or they're super modern with a giant square sink and no cabinet below. I think this is a good compromise and it'll work out well for us. I just wish we didn't have to buy it so far in advance! We've definitely figured out that if you see something you want at Costco, BUY IT! We love our new dishes that we were at first apprehensive to buy but when we went back and saw they were all gone, we were glad that we did!

Well off to meet my dad at Costco so he can haul the vanity home for us in the Suburban! Then he'll use the truck to rip out the stumps of the trees we cut down so we can start digging up the yard and making a plan for what we're going to do with the yard. We'll sod a lot of it so the dogs have grass and then we'll lay pavers around the existing patio to make it a more reasonable size and more usable.

Hope everyone is having a great Saturday!

Progress from last weekend!

Last weekend we spent some time working on the front of the house. We dug out the old "planter" that was really hiding the fact there was no cement, laid paving stones in the space, then my mom brought by the planters and pots. We also got the front door painted. We still need to clean the siding and put up new house numbers and lights, but here's a before and an in progress picture!

The outside of the house before.

In progress! All the junk along the fence has been ripped off and my dad is going to power wash it for us. We have our great new planters and new pots and pavers and door. Still more to do, but I am loving the progress!

This weekend I think we're going to focus on the backyard and see how far we can get with that. Thankfully it's small enough that we can get a whole lot done in a weekend. No firm plans though. I think we're starting to take it a little easier! We still need to paint more inside (especially the spare room so we can unpack it) and do some other inside things, so we'll see what happens. Tonight I am heading down to my parent's to help my dad out with a few things. I'll be sure to take before and after pictures of our yard if that's what we tackle! It's pretty bad right now! We already cut down the trees and are waiting for my dad to come pull the stumps out. I can't wait to fix it up!

Not too much progress thanks to an awful cold!

Work has slowed down on the house this past week because I came down with a terrible cold! Ugh. But we still managed to make some progress. We finished digging out the “flower bed” in the front of the house and I laid down some stone pavers in the space so it looks a ton better. Then my magical mother showed up with a car full of plants to help out with some curb appeal! She put two bit gorgeous cedar planters on the stone next to the front of the house and filled them full of beautiful perennials and a few annuals (knowing not to do many annuals since I am a terrible gardener). She also filled up two really cool flower pots she bought us with more great plants. Lance stripped the front door and we painted it black and added our new door hardware. Together with the planters and new stone pavers and pots and black front door, our house has some definitely curb appeal! We still have more we want to do (such as washing the siding – that’ll make it look a ton better) but this has been a great start. I will post before and after pictures of the front of the house shortly. What a different painting the door and adding some plants can make to a place!

P.S. My cold is mostly gone so I anticipate some great work happening this weekend! We might see if we can tackle the backyard and remove some tree stumps or at least clean up the debris from cutting down the trees and put it into yard waste bags. We’ll just have to see what weather we end up with!

So much to do!

Well we've been in the house for a whole week now and we've gotten quite a bit accomplished! Here are some before pictures of the house:

This is our front door from inside. The awful brown wood molding will eventually disappear, along with the brown closet doors. We also plan to replace the front door but for now, I am going to strip the paint off of the current one and paint it!

This is why painting the entry way is going to be so difficult!

Looking from the front door down the entry way into the living room.

Living room/dining room. Since the entry way flows right into these rooms and these rooms are really just one giant space, we had to stick with one wall color.

Le kitchen. The fridge has already been replaced and we'll be refinishing the cabinets, getting new countertops, and maybe adding a tile backsplash to jazz it up.

Up the stairs. More super high ceilings to paint!

The bathroom. As I type this we've already updated the toilet and painted it a khaki green color. I haven't taken pictures yet but I will!

Upstairs laundry area. Thank goodness the washer and dryer work!

This is what we're using as our master bedroom since it doesn't share any common walls with anyone.

Here are a few "work in progress" photos from last week. Still need to post pictures of the yard since we cut down two trees and the new fridge and new toilet! We also got everything moved in since these were taken so things are a little more set up. Anyways, here are some in progress shots!

My poppa checking out the paint can for our bedroom. He edged the bedroom by hand for us since he is an EXPERT painter and it looks AWESOME! I tried to cheat and use an edger tool from the paint store downstairs and it doesn't look nearly as nice. I couldn't ask the poor man to edge our whole house though!

Our bedroom before my dad edged it. It's really a deep pink color with a hint of red to it. We now have our bed in the room and our gold and white comforter on it and it all goes really well together! We have new faux-wood blinds to hang once I get the window sill painted. We were worried the room would be totally packed with our king bed because it seemed small but our bed fits nicely with plenty of room around the edges and enough space for a dresser and our TV. Win!

Dad and Lance futzing with paint in the bedroom.

Even the brother jumped in to help paint!

Priming the downstairs walls getting ready to paint. We went with a light gray-ish color that almost looks white until you see it against something white. Thankfully our couch is white so it looks great against that and our new white window blinds downstairs (photos of couch and room with blinds to come soon!).

Major construction zone! We painted the living room/dining room ceiling and then I primed all the walls. We're saving the kitchen for later so we can get the main rooms all done first.

I ended up going primer crazy and priming down the whole entry way as well. Then I painted it! I couldn't get up too high though because I didn't jump on the ladder. We did take our hand roller that extends and attach it to our giant extension roller and we can reach the ceilings but the problem is that we can't push against the roller when it's extended that much so right now you can see where we first hit the roller up on the wall because there is a dark oval then it slowly gets lighter since we couldn't really apply pressure. We'll figure out a way to get them painted though!

Well that is it for now! Since we have our couch in, accent wall mostly done (5 coats of red paint over white paint = still not quite covered. Next time I am using a dark tinted primer!), trees cut down, new fridge, new toilet and the bathroom painted I will have to go take some more pictures. Oh we are also working on digging all the dirt out of the random pit along the side of the house and someone made into a flower box. I bought really gorgeous gray paving stones from a paving stone place in Ballard (thankfully we only need 13 square feet of stone so we were able to go with something really nice) and a couple hundred pounds of gravel so we can put the appropriate 2-3' below the stones - we might cheat and only do 2' since we're not having a ton of people walk on the stone or anything, it'll only house some planters. Tonight we dug out more of it so we're close to being done digging. We also hung the blinds in the downstairs window and Lance edged the ceiling of the bathroom so I can finish the bathroom walls tomorrow after work. PHEW! It's been SO much work but SO much fun! And the projects never end! Saturday my mom is coming up with two cedar planter boxes for out front and a ton of plants. She already dropped off amazing giant pots for the front of the house that we'll fill as well. I also want to get the front door painted and spray the house with this special siding cleaner we got so it looks nicer. I am all about the curb appeal! Just wait until summer when we tackle the back yard! Aside from pulling out the tree stumps, we want to rip out the small concrete patio and re-do it with some nice paving stones, making it bigger and a little nicer looking. We also want to re-sod the whole yard (which isn't much) so we have grass instead of the weeds we have now. Our yard really is just rocks and weeds -it's awful! We also want to replace the fence along the side of our driveway since it's seem better days, but that's falling lower and lower on our priority list. My dad thinks that if we power wash it, stain it and cut the very tops off the fence pieces that it'll look fine so we might try that.

Anyways, off to bed! I am coming down with a cold so I just drank some of the green monster (also known as Nyquil) so I can get a good sleep so we can keep on trucking tomorrow! Hope everyone is having a great night!
